Logbook, 1853 Mar.-1854 Mar., 1856 Jun.-1857 Aug.

Logbook kept by John D. Rogers, cooper, on the bark Odd Fellow of Sag Harbor on a whaling voyage to Madagascar, Delago Bay and St. Helena, 1853 Mar.-1854 Mar., under the command of Captain Selah Youngs; and a voyage aboard the whaling ship Millinoket of New Bedford, Captain Charles A.M. Taber, along the coast of Africa and in the West Indies, 1856 Jun.-1857 Aug. He records sightings of sperm, right and humpback whales, kills, barrels of oil yielded, other ships sighted, sailing and hunting in the company of the Odd Fellow's fellow whaling vessels the Leander and Iris, names of other crew members, activities and illness on ship board, trips ashore to trade for supplies, etc. Several entries recording successful kills are stamped in ink with the figure of whale, with different stamps representing the species taken that day. Also included are 3 brief pages of entries in pencil dated 1855 and identified as written aboard the whaling ship Tuscany.
